"Wonder’s work seeks to dismantle the illusion that we are not all creators, encouraging people to rediscover their creative instincts through songwriting and other artistic pursuits."

Wonder Truly is a queer and chronically ill singer-songwriter and music producer in Phoenix, Arizona. Formerly a cruise ship singer and a full-time independent touring artist, the pandemic changed the landscape of musical freelancing. It changed even more when Wonder contracted Covid in October 2021, which turned into long covid that had Wonder bedbound for the majority of 13 months until December 2022. While incandescently grateful to have recovered to the point where she is able to perform on Twitch on a regular basis, and return to songwriting and producing, the shadow of long covid relapse looms heavy. Wonder lives a defiantly joyful life in spite of this, taking things one day at a time and staying devoted to her passions.

The Power of Wonder: Redefining Strength and Creativity

Wonder Truly is a multitalented artist whose brightness radiates from the magenta hue of their hair to the light in their eyes. Their journey as an artist is one of transformation, resilience, and a profound embrace of creativity. With a wealth of unrelenting determination, Wonder was once described as one of the hardest-working artists in their community. In their early career Wonder spent years touring the United States in a Prius, self-producing their music and embracing the grind of creative hustle culture.

In October 2021, Wonder’s life took an unexpected turn when a 13-month battle with long COVID forced them to reimagine their understanding of strength and artistry. The illness amplified a lifelong struggle with chronic fatigue, presenting profound physical limitations and emotional challenges. Tasks that once seemed effortless became challenging; the strong and capable body that could push limits, now required gentleness and care.

The experience with long COVID became a turning point, encouraging a release on the grip on relentless hustle and the embrace of a more compassionate approach to life and creativity. The experience led Wonder to confront body dysmorphia in new and painful ways, grieving the body they had lost, lamenting the lack of gratitude for it when they had it, and learning to slow down, love, and listen to their body as it is now. Out of this grief and transformation, Wonder began to redefine strength—not as physical dominance or relentless hustle, but as the ability to adapt, honor their body’s needs, and embrace patience.

Wonder’s chosen name became a guiding force throughout this transformation, it reflects their commitment to living in the mystery and refraining from rigid definitions of reality. For Wonder, existing in a state of curiosity and possibility is an act of mindfulness: creating space for growth, healing, and creativity even amidst the challenges of chronic illness.

Long COVID inevitably slowed Wonder’s artistic output, but it also deepened their work. They shared their journey on social media, using their platform to amplify the voices of those similarly struggling in silence. Writing became a primary creative outlet, accompanied by visual art and songwriting. Pieces like “I Don’t Want to Lose My Mind” and “Strong Man” captured the emotional complexities of their experience, turning personal pain into universally relatable art.

Wonder’s experiences uniquely position them to empathize with others—particularly the artists they collaborate with as a music producer. Chronic illness has given them a profound understanding of the challenges faced by those balancing creativity with physical and emotional limitations. This perspective informs their production style, which is centered on humanizing the creative process.

Wonder tailors each collaboration to the pacing and needs of the artist, ensuring that the experience is both supportive and empowering. They prioritize connection and understanding, transforming production into a deeply personal and meaningful journey for their clients. As Wonder put it “If I need to stop and lay on the floor while I’m producing, or if my clients need to, we get it”.

At the heart of Wonder’s artistry is a mission to reconnect people with their innate creativity. They believe creativity is a fundamental part of being human, that it is a bridge connecting humanity in the great void of existence, and that it creates a common language of understanding that perhaps words alone cannot approximate. Wonder’s work seeks to dismantle the illusion that we are not all creators, encouraging people to rediscover their creative instincts through songwriting and other artistic pursuits.

Through their performances and music production, Wonder creates spaces for authentic connection and emotional expression. Wonder credits their community for their success, recognizing that creativity thrives on connection and collaboration.

Wonder Truly’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of curiosity and compassion. They continue to redefine what it means to be an artist, inviting others to explore their creativity and find strength in the process of transformation in the miraculous, the mysterious, and the beautifully unpredictable journey of being human.
