Karen is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Therapist with over 18 years of experience in mental health and community outreach. She works with adults navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship and family dynamics, conflict resolution, and issues related to aging, illness, grief, and loss. She has a particular focus on supporting individuals who are caregivers, whether caring for a loved one or professionally, as they balance the demands of caregiving with their own needs. Karen also has extensive experience helping individuals and families cope with grief and loss, offering a compassionate space to explore these complex emotions and find meaningful ways to heal and move forward.
Karen takes a holistic, collaborative, and strengths-based approach to therapy, integrating cognitive behavioral therapies, mindfulness, and somatic practices to help develop practical tools for coping and growth. Her style is warm, relational, non-judgmental, and supportive, with humor and curiosity as essential tools for meaningful self-exploration. She is passionate about promoting social justice, celebrating diversity, and highlighting the value of community in fostering well-being.
Karen earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Social Work, specializing in Mental Health, at the University of Georgia. She has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health clinics, hospital settings, shelters, street outreach, and home and outdoor sessions. Karen has experience working with individuals, caregivers, and families, offering both individual and group therapies. She delivers trauma-focused therapy in a variety of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Somatic, and Strengths-based approaches.
As a parent, Karen has a deep understanding of the unique challenges that come with balancing family life, work, and self-care. Having lived and worked as a therapist in diverse regions of the United States and in England, and in a variety of therapeutic settings, Karen brings a broad and inclusive perspective to her practice. She deeply values creative expression as a vital part of collective and individual well-being and has cultivated personal practices in art, music, meditation, yoga, and literature, all of which inform her therapeutic approach.
